John Prestbo, a Fellow for the George W. Bush Institute's 4% Growth Project, has completed a detailed study: “The Influence of Tax Rates on the U.S. Stock Market.” Prestbo’s paper looks at the history of movements and volume in the Dow Jones Industrial Average to study how capital gains and dividend tax rates correlate to market performance.
