The Bush Institute Announces a Veteran Leadership Program

This program will target veteran and non-veteran rising leaders working to improve veteran outcomes.

There are more than 2 million non-profit organizations in the U.S., approximately 45,000 self-identify as serving U.S. military service personnel and families. At the Bush Instute-led Stand To, a convening of more than 70 veteran organizations, President Bush announced a Veteran Leadership program that will target rising leaders working to improve veteran outcomes, whether they are veterans or non-veterans themselves.

“I am confident this program will make a lasting impact not only for our vets, but those helping our vets,” said President Bush.

The Veteran Leadership program will help those serving our Nation’s veterans do so more effectively and with more impact through creative forums for strategic conversations that try to improve and strengthen the lives of veterans and their families. The participants will have access to all Bush Institute resources and will be a platform for leaders in the veteran serving space to enhance their leadership skills, learn from peers, and create a network and community that can do more together than individually. Through projects and action plans, participants will have the opportunity to strengthen and magnify their programs and contributions.

Participants could include such positions as a leader of a veteran- serving non-profit, a leader of a veteran-specific initiative within a corporation or organization, or a board member on a veteran serving non-profit. Participants will be selected through an application process that includes a written submission and interview. Applications will open mid-September 2017 and classes will commence in the Spring of 2018. More details on the program will be forthcoming when applications open this fall.
