The 2017 class of Presidential Leadership Scholars (PLS) reconvened today at the George W. Bush Presidential Center to begin module four of the program which will conclude over the weekend.

Designed to strengthen leadership skills and foster critical thinking to help face society’s greatest challenges, the six-month program allows participants to visit the Bush Library in College Station, the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, the Bush Center in Dallas and the LBJ Library in Austin. At each stop, scholars learn how each President effectively used strategic partnerships, vision and communication, decision-making and persuasion and influence.

During module four at the Bush Center, our 60 participants are analyzing decision-making as they learn from President George W. Bush’s administration and leadership experts. Today, the gathering commenced with a thought-provoking meeting with Mrs. Laura Bush and her former Chief of Staff and Assistant to the President Anita McBride to discuss the influence and leadership of global first ladies. During the remainder of module four, Scholars will hear from Keith Hennessey, former Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director of the National Economic Council, who will speak in-depth about the 2008 financial crisis. Other members of the Bush administration including former Press Secretary Dana Perino, former Deputy National Security Adviser on Iraq and Afghanistan Meghan O’Sullivan and former Deputy Assistant to the United States and Director of Advance Spencer Geissinger will be joining Keith Hennessey on stage to discuss President’s Bush’s leadership style. Finally, President Bush will meet with Scholars to discuss key decisions that he made during his presidency and will reflect on his experience leading our nation during such a consequential time in history.
