“Lindsay Lloyd was a dedicated leader of the Bush Institute’s work in an area that matters deeply to Laura and me: human freedom,” said President George W. Bush.
With great sadness, the George W. Bush Institute announces the passing of longtime friend and colleague Lindsay Lloyd. Lindsay, who had been with the Bush Institute for more than a decade, died Monday, Aug. 1 in Dallas after extended health problems.
Lindsay joined the Bush Institute in 2011 after working for 16 years at the International Republican Institute. An expert on democracy and human rights with a regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe, Lindsay served as Deputy Director and then Director of the Human Freedom Initiative at the Bush Institute where he led original research and programming geared toward advancing freedom and democracy around the world. Most recently, he was a Senior Adviser on the Freedom and Democracy team.
“Lindsay Lloyd was a dedicated leader of the Bush Institute’s work in an area that matters deeply to Laura and me: human freedom,” said President George W. Bush. “Lindsay’s commitment to liberty and democracy inspired our team and benefitted people around the world. Laura and I will miss his kindness and intellect, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.”
His work touched freedom and human rights activists globally. He oversaw a program to help North Koreans who fled their country and resettled in the United States. He worked with young Burmese who benefitted from the Bush Institute’s leadership program. And he recognized the need to explain the importance of democracy and freedom to younger audiences, including at the university level.
“Lindsay was a wonderful person who was passionately devoted to the cause of freedom,” said Holly Kuzmich, Executive Director of the Bush Institute. “He shaped our work at the Bush Institute in so many ways and was a vital member of the team. He will truly be missed.”
Arrangements are yet to be announced, but the Bush Institute plans to commemorate the life and contributions of Lindsay in the near future.
