The United States, Canada and Mexico trade hundreds of billions of dollars in goods and services annually, which speaks volumes about the attractiveness of our markets and supports the region’s global competitiveness. With NAFTA renegotiation talks underway, speakers will discuss how lowering economic barriers has enabled North America to outperform other regions, and examine closely how an updated NAFTA could further improve the continent’s trade and competitiveness.
“We have looked carefully at the integration of the North American economy from a macro perspective and find that all three economies have enjoyed strong economic growth, significant net job creation and increases in global exports since NAFTA was signed,” said Rooney. “It’s important that we use these renegotiations as an opportunity to build on our competitive lead and to make NAFTA the most innovative and competitive manufacturing platform in the world.”
With the goal to be helpful to the current administration, the Bush Institute has issued a new set of recommendations focused on NAFTA negotiations which Mr. Rooney will speak to during the panel discussion. To read the recommendations in full, please click here.
This event is part of the Bush Institute’s Economic Growth initiative’s ongoing efforts to advocate free market principles that promote economic growth and further economic integration throughout North America, enabling the U.S. to better compete in the global economy.
