As a companion program to the Bush Center’s 2023 Freedom Matters special exhibit, Carlyle Group Co-Founder and Co-Chairman David Rubenstein and “America’s Government Teacher” Sharon McMahon join Bush Center CEO Ken Hersh for what is sure to be an informative and entertaining conversation on democracy.
They will discuss the significant historical artifacts featured in the exhibit, many of which are on loan from Rubenstein’s collection, and the role of “extraordinary ordinary people” in advocating for freedom and liberty. Artifacts featured in the exhibit include all four U.S. Founding Documents: The Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and The Federalist (Papers); a copy of the Magna Carta from 1302; and a rare version of the Emancipation Proclamation. McMahon, a former high school government and law teacher known for her wildly popular @SharonSaysSo Instagram account, is on a simple mission to share non-partisan information about democracy. She has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers online, affectionately called the “Governerds.”
