Journalism and Freedom
Fact-finding reporting is a timeless and essential service in a democracy. Jim Lehrer explores this topic, along with freedom of speech, from his perspective as a veteran newsman.

For more than 35 years, Jim Lehrer came into our homes each weeknight as the host of a PBS news show. He co-anchored The MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour and then anchored The Newshour with Jim Lehrer. The Kansas native’s journalism career took off in Dallas where he covered the assassination of President Kennedy and later launched a public affairs TV show.
The Catalyst believes that ideas matter. We aim to stimulate debate on the most important issues of the day, featuring a range of arguments that are constructive, high-minded, and share our core values of freedom, opportunity, accountability, and compassion. To that end, we seek out ideas that may challenge us, and the authors’ views presented here are their own; The Catalyst does not endorse any particular policy, politician, or party.
