President George W. Bush and the Bush Institute conducted an international symposium at the Invictus Games 2016 to discuss solutions to help returning servicemen and women overcome their invisible wounds and improve outcomes for their transition back to civilian life. Prince Harry joined President Bush for a conversation about the importance of reducing the barriers to care and the role of sport in recovery. President Bush also served as the Honorary Chairman for Invictus Games Orlando 2016.
“I have dedicated the rest of my life to honoring the service and sacrifice of the men and women with whom I served as Commander-in-Chief,” said President Bush. “Those who wear their Nation’s uniform, some of whom have overcome both visible and invisible injuries, deserve our support. I’m proud to serve as honorary chairman of the Invictus Games Orlando 2016, and to shine a spotlight on the ‘unconquerable souls’ of these men and women, not just from the American team but from 14 Coalition nations.”
The Invictus Games is an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans. The symposium focused on understanding the multiple facets of invisible wounds and how the warriors, caregivers, general public, providers, and influencers each play an important role in helping servicemen and women succeed.
